The North Eastern Soil and Crop Improvement Association has set up tour dates across the north east to introduce new OMAFRA Crop Specialists to the north.
Algoma’s date is July 19. Instead of a single big event the Algoma Soil & Crop Improvement Association (ASCIA) has opted for a series of different tours to allow producers to choose sessions that fit into their schedules. You can attend one or all of the sessions listed below. Sessions will be informal with a chance to look at some crops at the host farms, meet the specialists and to visit with other producers. No meals are planned, but light snacks and drinks will be available at some locations.
10 AM Peter Woolcott, organic fall spelt. Sherwood Road, Thessalon across from Midway lumber mill. You must approach from Hwy 129 as the bridge is out across the Thessalon river.
10:30 AM Matt Seabrook – field peas, barley trials, 15 Collver Road, Thessalon. We will travel from Peter’s and stop Along Hwy 129 to see the plots and then proceed to Matt’s for a short visit and to see plots from the other side.
Last stop in this area will be a brief viewing a RAIN/ASCIA barley test plot at Ray Prestedge’s farm on River Road between the Midway Bridge and Hwy 17.
The Specialists will then get a tour of other features of the area working our way towards the next caravan stop.
