Technology Roadmap for Horticulture in Northern Ontario

More and more people in Northern Ontario seek out local produce, and fruit & vegetable production in the area does not meet demand (see RAIN’s Market Study).  Vineland Research & Innovation Centre is a non-profit research organization in Ontario with a focus on improving horticulture in Canada.

Toward this goal, Vineland Research & Innovation Centre, Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance (NOFIA) and RAIN are conducting a study aimed at identifying barriers and challenges faced by stakeholders in the region’s horticultural sector.

Through analysis of survey data and further research, as well as an assessment of new and emerging technological advances, Vineland will produce a technology roadmap to communicate the short-, mid-, and long-term outlook for growth and development of horticulture in the region.

Our ultimate goal is to provide growers, stakeholders, and communities with information to bring about improvements in the quantity, quality, and availability of fresh local produce in Northern Ontario.
